about

In Summer 2020, Sun Ra Bullock inherited an organ from Sir G. a fellow DJ and label making friend (don’t worry, he’s still alive, he just needed the space). The Yamaha organ with two manuals, bass pedals and a funky onboard rhythm computer has been catching dust for the last couple of years, so it took a while to clean it up and get warm with its workings.

Not particularly educated on the keyboards, its new owner focused on easy pieces and improvisations based on drone tones, simple patterns and a rudimentary loop pedal. And when it was time for recording, SRB’s
method was quite similar to the process that led to their first solo album “Surreal visceralismo”: straight to stereo, with no preconceptions, with all music feeding off itself and developing out of the moment.
These moments tended to stretch to more than 10 minutes, with most of the mixing done on the spot. While some titles where pretty much left as they were, some received a good deal of editing and further mix enhancements.

This first collection centres around the beatless moods, based on bass drones or loops. A second round of tunes which features the timeless dance beats of the Yamaha Electone A-55 N home organ will be released in the near future as Volume II.

Sun Ra Bullock is a fictional character, credited as co-founder of Edelfaul Recordings and for playing bass in Stumpf as well as drums in Atomvulkan Britz. Their first solo album “Surreal visceralismo” was released on Edelfaul Recordings in 2021.
