DIKDӔDØR is the pet project of Berlin musicians Han Kuwiz (X.A.Cute, 12dingo) and Sun Ra Bullock (Stumpf, Atomvulkan Britz).

When they found themselves grounded as involuntary flatmates during the first lockdown in April 2020, they were looking for a way to kill time, as a diet of herbs and movies would surely not last them forever. So instead of silently binging and cringing at what happens outside their windows, they turned on the machines almost every day and dived into a sound that reflected upon a world gone mad and their their own mental techniques to stay sane.

The resulting collection of sounds works almost without beats, instead emphasizes mutations, juxtapositions and transfigurations, giving way to creeping inertia and anxiety, and a grim look on current western politics. Confronted with an invisible enemy and an ugly system that erratically erased all joy from city life, Kuwiz and SRB invited their darkest fantasies to play, connected ancient cables and valve amplifiers, and evoked inner demons by walking forbidden paths of sound synthesis and feedback loops. Instruments used were volca keys, microkorg, Ibanez digital delay, echochord tape delay, loop pedals, reverb, distortion and a 16 track mixer. Sessions were mostly cut to stereo, sometimes enhanced by overdubs, and finally mixed in one brutally loud session in the basement.

The result is a subjective and dark but humorous view on an unfolding dystopia that nearly no one was ready to be confronted.with. A city devoid of all its social functions, and a society curling up in isolation, individualism and utter madness, giving way to a few millions of little dictators hacking away on their so called social networks, spreading their hate for strangers, women, and minorities. With actual social life, solidarity, and community comfort coming to a grinding halt, and our work and immediate future plans devalued over night, music, as terrible as it may be (on this album) remained our way out of depression, isolation and inertia, and we hope that with listening to these sounds, you can share a bit of that comfort.
